Where do I get Awnsy?
On the Mac App Store. Updates arrive through the App Store as well.
How do I translate text?
Select text and press your hotkey (default ⌘⌥T) or use the menu-bar item. The translation appears in a small floating window.
How do I translate something I can’t select — an image, a game, a video?
Use Translate Screen Area from the menu bar (or its hotkey) and draw a box around the text. Awnsy reads it on-device and translates it.
Why does Translate Screen Area come out garbled for my language?
Awnsy reads the screen with Apple’s on-device text recognition, which supports a set of languages that grows with each macOS release (Latin scripts, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Thai and more). For languages it doesn’t recognize yet, use regular text translation instead — it works with every language.
Do I need an account or an API key?
No. The built-in on-device model works right away, offline. For top quality you can optionally add your own OpenAI or Anthropic key in Settings → Models.
Is Awnsy free? What does Awnsy Pro add?
Text translation is free and unlimited. Translate Screen Area comes with 10 free translations; Awnsy Pro unlocks it fully and adds a custom translation prompt for cloud models. Pro is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase — current prices are shown in the app under Settings → Awnsy Pro.
Where is my API key stored?
Locally on your Mac, in the macOS Keychain. It’s never sent to us.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new Mac?
Open Settings → Awnsy Pro and choose Restore Purchases.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings (Apple ID → Subscriptions).
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.
What does Awnsy require?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 15 or later. Intel Macs aren’t supported — the on-device model needs Apple silicon. No account, no sign-up.
