Privacy Policy

Awnsy (“the app”) is a macOS translation utility made by Alexey Doroshenko (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use Awnsy. In short: we run no servers and collect no personal data. Awnsy works without an account.

What we collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to ourselves. Awnsy has no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.

Text you translate

• Cloud models (OpenAI / Anthropic): if you choose a cloud model, the text you translate — selected text, clipboard contents, or text recognized from a screen area — is sent directly from your Mac to that provider’s API using your own API key, in order to produce the translation. This data is processed under that provider’s privacy policy, not ours. See OpenAI and Anthropic.
• On-device model: if you choose the built-in on-device model, translation happens entirely on your Mac. The text is not sent anywhere and works offline.

Translate Screen Area

When you select a region of the screen, a screenshot of that region is processed locally on your Mac (using Apple’s on-device text recognition) to extract the text. The image itself is never transmitted by Awnsy. The recognized text is then translated according to the model you have chosen (see above).

Your API keys

Any API keys you enter are stored locally on your device in the macOS Keychain. They are never sent to us and are used only to talk to the provider you selected.

Purchases

Awnsy Pro purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple provides us only anonymized, aggregate sales information.

Third parties

The only third parties that ever receive your content are the translation provider you yourself select and configure (OpenAI or Anthropic) and Apple (for purchases). We do not share data with anyone else — we never hold it in the first place. Each of these providers processes data under its own published privacy policy, which provides protection of your data no less stringent than described here. No analytics tools, advertising networks, or other third-party SDKs receive any of your data.

Data retention and deletion

We retain nothing. Translated text is displayed to you and discarded; Awnsy keeps no history and no logs of your content. Your settings and API keys are stored only on your device (in the app’s preferences and the macOS Keychain) and are removed when you delete the app. To delete all data Awnsy holds, simply delete the app.

A cloud provider you connect may retain API request logs under its own policy; to manage or delete that data, use your account with that provider.

Your rights and revoking consent

You can stop any data leaving your Mac at any moment: switch to the on-device model, remove your API key, or delete the app — no request to us is needed, because we hold nothing. For the purposes of the GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws: we process no personal data, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or erase. Requests concerning data held by a translation provider should be directed to that provider. If you believe we hold anything about you, contact us and we will respond.

Children

Awnsy is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the effective date above.
